Ms. Shelia Barnes began her career in Huntsville, AL initially as an EMS tele-communicator and progressed through EMT to Paramedic at Huntsville Emergency Medical Services, Inc. She has been active in EMS for over 40 years in ground and air transport, EMS education and emergency communications. Ms. Barnes simultaneously served as an EMS educator at the postsecondary level while maintaining a clinical role in both EMS and nursing. She completed her BSN and MSN at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is ANCC board certified as a nurse practitioner in both Adult-Gerontology Acute Care and Family Practice through ANCC. She maintains her National Registry status as a paramedic and is licensed in Alabama and Tennessee. She retired as an EMS Program Director from the Alabama Community College System in 2017; however, she has continues to practice as a critical care transport nurse at Huntsville Hospital. Ms. Barnes has most recently practiced in the rural health system as a nurse practitioner in medically underserved areas. She strongly believes in working diligently to improve health and wellness and reduce disparities and access to care to our community. She is the manager of Mobile Integrated Community Health at Maury Regional EMS in Columbia, TN.
